The President of the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria (EYN), Reverend Dr. Daniel Mbaya, has condemned the recent attack by Boko Haram on a church, homes, and shops in Bamzir, a town in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack, which resulted in the deaths of several people, was confirmed by both local authorities and church sources. Among the deceased were two clergymen.
In a voice message sent to Daily Struggle in Yola, Dr. Mbaya described the attack as deeply condemnable and stressed the urgent need for improved security measures in the country.
“We denounce the way these incidents are occurring. At dawn, while we were preparing for prayers, the attackers struck in Bamzir. Two of our members were killed, our place of worship was burned, and the homes and shops of our members were destroyed,” Dr. Mbaya lamented.
He called on the government and security agencies to take decisive action to ensure the safety of lives and property.
“We urge the government and security forces to fulfill their responsibility to protect citizens. It is imperative that they do everything within their power to safeguard lives,” he emphasized.
Dr. Mbaya also appealed to affected individuals not to resort to violence or take the law into their own hands.
“Taking the law into our own hands will not solve the problem. Let us refrain from retaliation or conflict and instead pray for God to save our nation,” he advised.
The EYN President extended his condolences to the families, relatives, and children who lost loved ones in the attack, as well as those displaced and currently in exile.
Reports from Bamzir indicate that the attack has forced residents to flee to Chibok town. Those who have returned to Bamzir remain in a state of fear and uncertainty.
