The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General David Maiyeranso Saraso, has inaugurated several projects at the 18 Brigade, Litani Barracks, Bida, Niger State. These projects were dedicated to honoring troops who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.

Among the commissioned projects was the Hall of Heroes, named after the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. The initiative was conceived and funded by the Commander of the 18 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Taye Ahmed, as a lasting monument to commemorate fallen heroes.

The GOC also commissioned two units of three-bedroom flats for officers, a block of two-bedroom flats for senior non-commissioned officers, accommodations for corporals and below, as well as a complex housing the brigade’s arms store and magazine.

Delivering the Chief of Army Staff’s goodwill message, Major General Saraso highlighted the "soldiers first" policy and urged troops to intensify their efforts in sustaining the operational successes of the Nigerian Army. He praised Brig.-Gen. Ahmed for the initiative, describing it as an example worth emulating. Saraso emphasized that the welfare of soldiers remains a top priority for the Army's leadership and encouraged troops to remain committed to their duties.

In his remarks, Brig.-Gen. Ahmed stated that the projects were inspired by the ethics and traditions of the Nigerian Army.

“I am proud to have sponsored this initiative, which stands as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our fallen heroes,” he said, adding that the projects were designed to enhance the welfare and living conditions of soldiers and their families.

Mrs. Josephine Yohanna, the widow of a fallen soldier, expressed her gratitude to the Nigerian Army for its unity and recognition.

“We are thankful for this honor. It inspires us and will motivate other soldiers to continue serving the nation with dedication and loyalty,” she said.

The Hall of Heroes features portraits of deceased personnel, an arcade for wreath-laying, and framed quotations commemorating their honor and sacrifices.

During his visit, the GOC also paid a courtesy call to the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, expressing gratitude for his continuous support to the Nigerian Army and troops stationed at Litani Barracks.

In response, the Etsu Nupe commended the GOC and expressed satisfaction with the professionalism and contributions of the 18 Brigade within the emirate.
