The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has appointed Kebbi State Governor, His Excellency Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, as the Grand Patron of the NUJ Kebbi State Council.

The NUJ President, Alhaji Alhassan Yahaya-Abdullahi, presented the certificate of appointment to the governor in Abuja, describing the honor as a recognition of his contributions to unionism and the welfare of the people.

"This investiture is a resolution of the NEC of the Nigerian Union of Journalists. It acknowledges someone who has paid his dues in unionism and leadership and continues to exemplify these values as the governor of Kebbi State," Yahaya-Abdullahi stated.

The NUJ president commended the governor for his policies, infrastructure projects, and integration of traditional institutions in Kebbi State. He also highlighted the governor's efforts in fostering unity across political divides, noting that even opposition parties were aligning with his developmental agenda.

In his response, Governor Nasir Idris expressed gratitude to the NUJ for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with journalists.

"I am honoured to receive this award, which is the first I have been given in 2025. Kebbi is a labour-friendly state, and we will continue to work for the betterment of our people," he said.

He assured the NUJ of his government’s support and extended an open invitation to the union to hold its meetings in Kebbi State. The governor also emphasized his administration's unity-focused approach, noting that many opposition members were joining his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Idris, a seasoned labor leader, has held numerous leadership roles, including Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Kebbi State, State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers.
