The recent approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the reopening of certain closed filling stations near border towns has been described as a welcome development.

Alhaji B. Usman Daura (DEDA), a member of the Katsina State Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for Tinubu/Shettima 2023, and National President of the Association of Katsina Indigenous People, as well as Vice Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee for Katsina State (Daura Senatorial Zone), commended the President for this initiative.

He also appealed to President Tinubu to reconsider reopening all land borders that were closed by the previous administration of Muhammadu Buhari. According to him, reopening these borders would create job opportunities for unemployed youths, boost economic activities, and enhance security by employing more personnel to monitor border areas and maintain law and order.

Alhaji Daura emphasized that reopening borders would significantly increase internally generated revenue nationwide, stimulate business activities, and help reduce crime rates among unemployed youths. He noted that many crimes committed by young people stem from lack of employment or engagement in productive activities. He added that before the closure of land borders, crime rates were comparatively lower in affected areas.

The Chairman expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu and prayed for the approval of their request to reopen the borders for the peace and stability of Nigeria. He also called on youths to turn out en masse to support government policies and programs. Additionally, he urged the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing vital information on security matters, stressing that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of ensuring security without the cooperation and sacrifice of citizens.

Alhaji Daura concluded by praying for God’s guidance and protection for President Tinubu to succeed in handling the affairs of the nation.
