Sheila Udoka Udeh, a human rights activist, was brutally attacked on March 19, 2023, after months of threats over her campaign against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Udoka, founder of Eradicating Gender Mutilation (EGM), had been outspoken about the dangers of FGM, drawing hostility from traditionalists and community leaders.

According to eyewitnesses, armed men ambushed her near Shoprite Parklane in Enugu East LGA, beating her severely. She had previously reported multiple threats and intimidation attempts, but authorities failed to intervene.

Despite the severity of the attack, no action has been taken against the perpetrators. This case is being revisited to spotlight the ongoing threats to her safety and the authorities’ inaction in ensuring justice.
