In a landmark development for legal education in Niger State, the Fati Lami Abubakar Institute for Legal and Administrative Studies, Minna, has secured accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for its National Diploma (ND) programs in Islamic and Common Law, as well as Law. The accreditation, granted on February 12, 2025, marks a historic milestone for the Institute, which had operated for over two decades without formal recognition for its law programs.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Minna Branch, has described the achievement as a major breakthrough for legal education in the region. In a congratulatory letter to the Provost, Dr. Amina Usman Kutigi, NBA Minna Branch Chairman, Isyaku Barau, praised her exceptional leadership, resilience, and vision in securing the long-awaited accreditation.
“This remarkable achievement is a historic milestone for the Institute and a significant breakthrough in the legal education landscape of Niger State and beyond,” Barau stated.
He noted that the absence of accreditation had previously restricted graduates from gaining Direct Entry admission into universities. However, with the new accreditation, students will now have greater access to academic and professional opportunities.
Dr. Kutigi’s unwavering commitment to excellence, even in the face of limited resources, has drawn widespread commendation. Her determination to advance legal education and her tireless efforts in securing the accreditation have been described as a lasting legacy that will benefit future generations.
The NBA Minna Branch expressed pride in the Institute's accomplishment and reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the institution to promote legal education and professional development in Niger State.
This accreditation is expected to significantly enhance the quality of legal education in the state, providing students with a solid foundation for further studies and successful careers in the legal profession.
