Kaduna State has significantly improved students' performance in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE), achieving a 67% pass rate in the 2024 NECO results, up from the 54% recorded previously.
The improved performance reflects Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to examination sponsorship since assuming office.
Director General of the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQAA), Prof. Usman Abubakar Zaria, disclosed this during an interactive session with journalists in Zaria.
He revealed that the state sponsored over 136,742 public school candidates for various examinations in 2024, with plans to sponsor 175,752 candidates in 2025, including orphans and Hybrid CBT Junior Secondary Certificate Examination (JSCE) candidates.
Prof. Zaria also highlighted strides made in automation and digitization, including the migration of 15 regulatory processes online and the standardization of 19 critical processes to enhance efficiency and transparency in school administration.
He further announced that the Authority has mapped 3,622 private schools across the state — exceeding previous estimates — and captured their GPS coordinates for improved oversight.
The DG commended Kaduna’s strengthened collaboration with WAEC, which has resulted in plans for a new CBT Centre in the state and the election of Kaduna into four strategic WAEC committees.
“Kaduna successfully hosted the 62nd WAEC Annual General Meeting, earning international recognition for the state,” Prof. Zaria said.
He noted that Kaduna State has also deepened its collaboration with development partners such as PLANE and AGILE to further strengthen KSSQAA’s capacity. According to him, PLANE has trained 604 personnel and established an ICT hub, while AGILE provided a solar power system to support the Authority’s operations.
Prof. Zaria added that the state has improved examination processes by introducing zero paper waste printing and enhanced security measures to reduce costs and uphold the integrity of examinations.
He further revealed that the Whole School Evaluation (WSE) tool has been upgraded with a point-based ranking system, with plans to fully digitize the process soon.
Commending Governor Uba Sani and Commissioner for Education, Prof. Mohammed Sani Bello, for their unwavering support, Prof. Zaria stated that Kaduna is also pioneering the Hybrid CBT for BECE, aligning with the federal government’s digitization agenda.
