The Niger State Ministry of Primary Health Care, in collaboration with UNICEF and Gavi, is conducting a critical training on Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (BEmONC) for 130 Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) across 25 local government areas (LGAs). This initiative aims to enhance participants’ skills in providing essential care to pregnant women and newborns.
The training, led by Master Trainers from various medical and academic institutions, includes both practical and theoretical sessions. Among the facilitators is the Adolescent and Youth Reproductive Health (AYRH) Coordinator, Hajiya Fatima Gogo Mohammed, who is playing a key role in the program.
Speaking at the event, Permanent Secretary Dr. Mohammed Gana emphasized the urgency of addressing high maternal and neonatal mortality rates. He urged participants to take the training seriously, as it equips them with essential knowledge and skills to provide effective care in their communities.
Through initiatives like this, the Niger State Primary Health Care (NSPHC) Agency is taking significant steps toward building a healthier future for mothers and babies across the state.
