Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has blasted former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over the massacre of 300 members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, otherwise known as Shiites, under El-Rufai's watch.
In a post on X, Sowore stated that El-Rufai should be on his way to the International Criminal Court (ICC) alongside former President Muhammadu Buhari and former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, for allegedly murdering the Shiites and burying them in shallow graves.
He condemned those praising El-Rufai following his defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In his post, Sowore compared the situation in Nigeria to that of the Philippines, where a former president was arrested following an ICC order on allegations of crimes against humanity.
"Philippines Ex-President Duterte Arrested Following ICC Order Over Crimes Against Humanity! BUT Here in Nigeria, bozos are celebrating @elrufai for decamping to SDP even when he should be heading to @IntlCrimCourt with former President @MBuhari and ex-@HQNigerianArmy chief Buratai for the genocides committed against Shiites—at least 300 of them—that @elrufai buried in shallow graves after the @HQNigerianArmy massacred them in 2015."
Sowore also noted that there are plans to present former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as a presidential candidate under the Social Democratic Party.
"Very soon, they will start clapping for failed former VP @ProfOsinbajo, who is warming up to decamp to SDP and then pair with @elrufai as presidential candidate and VP for 2027 to clear the way for the druggie who is now President, @officialABAT!"
SaharaReporters earlier reported that former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and officially joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
El-Rufai’s resignation letter has already been submitted to the APC leadership in his ward in Kaduna State.
He has also instructed his political allies and supporters to follow him to the SDP.
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) cited a widening disconnect between his personal values and the current direction of the APC as the primary reason for his defection.
In a statement circulated online, dated Monday, March 10, 2025, El-Rufai had openly criticised the APC’s leadership, accusing the party of abandoning the progressive ideals upon which it was founded.
"Developments in the last two years confirm that there is no desire on the part of those who currently control and run the APC to acknowledge, much less address, the unhealthy situation of the party," El-Rufai stated.
