The Niger State Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to infrastructural development and the successful implementation of its New Niger Agenda.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, Bologi Ibrahim, emphasized the governor’s dedication to the state’s Urban–Rural Renewal Projects. He noted that Governor Bago is deeply passionate about these initiatives and is concerned about the slow pace of work on some projects.

However, Ibrahim clarified that a now-viral statement claiming that Governor Bago "regrets securing a N1 trillion loan for the state's Urban–Rural Renewal Projects instead of N500 billion" was taken out of context and misrepresented.

He stressed that the governor has consistently assured the public that adequate funds are available to execute all ongoing projects. During a recent meeting with contractors handling various projects across the state, Governor Bago expressed concerns over project delays but did not express “regret” in the true sense of the word.

Ibrahim dismissed any claims suggesting that the governor regrets securing the loan, calling them a misrepresentation of his actual stance and intentions. He further revealed that the state government is set to commence the second phase of the Urban–Rural Renewal Projects by the end of the year and warned contractors that any delays in ongoing projects would not be tolerated, especially since funds are readily available.

The Chief Press Secretary assured that the state government is judiciously utilizing its resources and dismissed concerns about financial strain. He urged the public to disregard misleading reports, reaffirming that Governor Bago remains committed to financial transparency, as evidenced by the regular publication of the state’s financial statements in national newspapers.
