In a significant move to enhance public health, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has partnered with the Centre for Well-being and Integrated Nutrition Solutions (C-WINS) to launch the Measles-Rubella Vaccine Introduction Advocacy Project. The initiative, led by consultant Dr. Yahaya Isah Vasta and his dedicated team, aims to address the ongoing challenges posed by measles and rubella in Nigeria.
The project seeks to educate communities on the importance of measles and rubella vaccinations in preventing outbreaks while dispelling myths and misconceptions to foster public trust in the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine. It also encourages parents and caregivers to immunize their children, thereby increasing vaccination rates at local, national, and global levels. Additionally, it aims to strengthen health systems by supporting healthcare providers in delivering vaccination services efficiently. Another key focus is engaging stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, and community leaders, to promote vaccination efforts and mobilize resources. Continuous monitoring and evaluation will ensure that advocacy strategies and vaccination initiatives effectively address community needs.
During the project’s introductory meeting, Dr. Yahaya Isah Vasta presented the initiative’s framework to Commissioner Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Dagana. Dr. Dagana emphasized the importance of collaboration at all levels of government and highlighted the unwavering commitment of First Lady Hajiya Fatima Bago and Governor Umaru Bago to strengthening primary health care services.
With collective effort, the initiative aims to protect children from preventable diseases and pave the way for a healthier future.
