The African continent has the potential to achieve true cooperation and integration if its nations join hands and work together, turning their vision for a united Africa into a tangible reality.
Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. La’ori, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa, emphasized this while presenting the Strategic Plan of the House Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa in Abuja on Wednesday.
La’ori underscored the crucial partnership between the Executive and Legislative branches in ensuring good governance not only for Nigeria but for the entire continent. He stated that Africa stands at a critical juncture where collaboration and integration are essential for shared progress. According to him, the strategic plan serves as a blueprint for fostering unity, cooperation, and sustainable development across the continent. He emphasized that it aligns with the vision of a prosperous Africa where every nation and its people can thrive.
He highlighted the five core pillars of the plan, beginning with strengthening legislative and oversight functions to ensure impactful, transparent, and accountable policies. He noted that aligning Nigeria’s national goals with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 is key to achieving a united, peaceful, and prosperous continent. Another crucial aspect is promoting national participation by engaging all citizens and stakeholders in shaping the nation’s future. He also stressed the importance of building public trust through transparency and active participation while fostering collaboration with civil society and the private sector. Lastly, he emphasized a commitment to excellence in service delivery, ensuring that public services meet the needs of citizens effectively.
La’ori stressed that the successful implementation of this strategic plan requires collective effort and full cooperation, which is why the committee is sharing it with stakeholders. He expressed confidence that, by working together, the vision for a cooperative and integrated Africa can become a tangible reality.
In his closing remarks, he reaffirmed the committee’s dedication to advancing African unity and making cooperation and integration a reality that improves lives and strengthens nations. He noted that the plan aligns with the African Union’s theme for 2025: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations.”
He expressed gratitude for the support and participation of all stakeholders and looked forward to their insights as the continent moves towards a brighter, more integrated future.
