The Niger State Government has appealed to residents to remain patient and understanding amid temporary disruptions caused by ongoing infrastructure upgrades across the state.

Hamza Waziri, Coordinator of Press Affairs to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, conveyed this message, emphasizing the need for public cooperation during this critical phase of the state’s urban renewal project.

Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Suleiman Umar, attributed recent shortages in potable water and irregular power supply to the relocation of water pipes and repositioning of power lines as part of the broader redevelopment initiative.

He assured residents that the inconvenience is temporary and a necessary sacrifice for long-term benefits.
"In the near future, citizens will not only feel satisfied but will also appreciate the bold steps taken by this administration to improve their lives," the commissioner said.

Hon. Umar noted that Niger State had not undergone any significant urban planning review in decades. He stressed that the current renewal efforts go beyond road construction to include the modernization of critical infrastructure — such as potable water systems, power supply, healthcare facilities, food security, and safety measures.

"Urban renewal means more than roads — it's about improving the entire ecosystem of daily life. We're replacing outdated infrastructure to provide residents with modern, efficient systems," he explained.

To mitigate the temporary water shortages, Governor Bago, represented by his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, directed the Niger State Water Board to collaborate with major contractors, including the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), to supply water to affected communities.

This intervention aims to provide immediate relief and ensure access to water while construction continues.
