The Federal Government has been urged to reinstate the position of National Amirul Hajj, in line with past practice.
His Highness, the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II, made the call while receiving officials from the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board at his palace.
The Emir emphasized the importance of reviving the role, which would see a designated national leader guiding the Nigerian delegation during the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
He noted that the concept of an Amirul Hajj dates back to the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who advocated for appointing leaders to guide pilgrims during such spiritual journeys.
The Emir stressed that appointing a National Amirul Hajj should be a consistent and essential component of Nigeria’s Hajj operations.
Speaking earlier, the Director General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Lamin Rabi’u Danbappa, said their visit was to formally invite the Emir to attend the final Hajj demonstration at the Hajj Camp.
He also confirmed that the board had completed all necessary preparations for the commencement of the airlift of pilgrims, scheduled to begin on 13 May 2025.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Alhaji Yusif Lawan, expressed deep appreciation to His Highness for his continued support for the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims. He also joined the call for the reinstatement of the National Amirul Hajj position.
