Prof. Adamu Ahmed has officially assumed office as the 13th substantive Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, succeeding Prof. Kabiru Bala.

The handover ceremony was held on Wednesday, 30th April 2025, at the Senate Chamber of the university.

In his inaugural remarks, Prof. Adamu Ahmed expressed his commitment to fostering impactful and timely research aimed at wealth creation and meaningful innovation. He emphasised the importance of collaboration among staff and students in driving research and innovation.

“I do not have all the answers, but with our globally respected academics, strong student body, and dedicated administrators, we will make a difference,” he said.

Prof. Ahmed pledged to lead with diligence, humility, and fairness, reaffirming his dedication to upholding the global standards of the institution. He expressed profound gratitude to the ABU Governing Council for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment.

He also acknowledged the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, for his leadership and appreciated the encouragement and support of the university’s basketball community.

In his farewell remarks, Prof. Kabiru Bala congratulated his successor and wished him a successful tenure. He thanked the university community for their support, constructive criticism, and encouragement throughout his administration.

Acting Registrar, Dr. Aliyu Dalha Kankia, commended Prof. Bala for his exemplary leadership and mentorship. He welcomed Prof. Ahmed and remarked that the transition should not merely be a change of title but a continuation of progress and excellence.

Highlights of the event included a goodwill message from former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Danladi Amodu Ameh, and a photo session.

The ceremony was attended by Principal Officers of the University, management staff, Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, members of the Zazzau Emirate Council, distinguished alumni from within and outside the country, and members of the press.
