— Pledges to Ensure His Re-election

By Awwal Umar Kontagora

The Forum of Former Parliamentarians, comprising past members of the National and State Assemblies from Niger State, has unanimously endorsed Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago for a second term in office. The forum pledged to work tirelessly to ensure his re-election in 2027.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication, Media, and Strategy, Hon. Jonathan Vatsa, the endorsement was among the key resolutions reached during the forum’s inaugural meeting held on Monday at the Conference Hall of the Niger State House of Assembly. The meeting was presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkindaji.

The session was chaired by Hon. Ibrahim Ebbo, a former Member of the House of Representatives for Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency, and attended by all former state and national lawmakers from the state.

The forum stated that Governor Bago, within two years in office, has redefined governance in the state through landmark transformations across various sectors. This, they said, formed the basis for his endorsement ahead of the 2027 polls.

"As former lawmakers, we have debated passionately, legislated wisely, and safeguarded democracy. Our collective experience and wisdom remain invaluable assets in shaping the political trajectory of the state. We are committed to ensuring Governor Bago completes the work he has started," the statement read.

The forum noted that the convergence of former legislators provides a platform for experienced minds to contribute meaningfully to state and national development.
“We will offer mentorship, policy insights, and moral guidance to current and future leaders,” they added.

They described Governor Bago as a former ranking member of the National Assembly who made indelible legislative contributions and has since demonstrated similar excellence as governor.
“Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Governor Bago has made significant strides in transforming the socio-economic landscape of Niger State,” the forum declared.

They also commended the harmonious relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government, attributing it to the governor’s legislative background and the leadership of the Speaker of the 10th Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Sarkindaji.

The forum praised Governor Bago’s agricultural revolution, which they said has become a model admired across the country.
“The scale and reach of road construction across Niger State is unprecedented and brings joy to every Nigerlite. What more can we say about a governor who is doing everything humanly possible to improve every aspect of our lives?” they stated.

They urged citizens to support Governor Bago to enable him to complete ongoing projects and fully implement his New Niger Agenda, adding, “We are proud of his achievements and identify fully with his vision.”

“As former lawmakers, we remain committed to Niger State’s progress. We pledge to support all initiatives that promote unity, development, and good governance,” the forum assured.

Later, the forum paid a courtesy visit to Governor Bago at the Government House, where he expressed appreciation for their endorsement and continued support.
He assured them that the New Niger Agenda is not just a slogan but a concrete vision aimed at transforming the state into a hub of progress and prosperity.

Governor Bago described the legislature as a vital pillar of democracy and praised the forum for setting aside party differences to unite behind a common goal.
“This endorsement means a great deal to me,” he said.

He disclosed that the state’s agricultural revolution has attracted international recognition, leading to a growing influx of investors interested in partnering with the government across various sectors.

Governor Bago pledged that his administration would not betray the trust reposed in him and vowed to complete all ongoing projects before the end of his tenure.
