In a momentous occasion for residents of Sabon Gari and the ancient city of Zaria, Governor Uba Sani on Tuesday commissioned the completed 8.4-kilometre Dogon Bauchi–Unguwan Gwado–Hayin Fulani–Kakeyeyi–Dakace Road, including a 105-meter bridge linking Sabon Gari and Zaria Local Government Areas.
Speaking during the commissioning on Wednesday, Governor Sani recalled that his administration inherited the project at just 15% completion. Moved by the pleas of residents and the economic significance of the road, he said the government swiftly intervened to complete the project.
“We are happy today that our intervention has brought joy to the people,” he declared to a cheering crowd.
The Governor also responded positively to appeals by Sabon Gari traders for better access to the Sabon Gari Market. He promised to direct the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA) to assess and prepare to construct an access road to the market.
Highlighting the road’s significance, Governor Sani noted that the Dogon Bauchi–Dakace route would boost economic activities, improve access to markets, healthcare, and education, and generally enhance the quality of life for residents of Sabon Gari, Zaria, and surrounding communities.
“Given the agricultural endowment of Sabon Gari and its proximity to Zaria and Kaduna metropolitan cities, this road will undoubtedly catalyse local economic development,” he said.
Governor Sani revealed that since assuming office, his administration had initiated construction on 79 roads across Kaduna State, totaling 780 kilometers. Out of these, 28 roads have been completed and commissioned, with others in advanced stages.
“Today’s road commissioning symbolises the progress we are making together as a community and reflects our collective aspirations for a better tomorrow,” he stated.
He urged stakeholders, including community leaders and local authorities, to take ownership of the project and ensure its maintenance for lasting impact.
The Governor thanked engineers, contractors, community leaders, and residents of Sabon Gari for their cooperation and commitment.
“This achievement is a testament to what can be accomplished through dogged commitment, collective effort and a shared vision for a better Kaduna State,” he concluded.
The commissioning event marked another step in Kaduna’s infrastructural transformation under Governor Sani’s leadership.
