The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing into law the bill that upgrades the Federal Polytechnic Kabo to the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, in Kano State.
The presidential assent was conveyed in a formal letter to the Senate and announced during Tuesday’s plenary session, presided over by Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON. The approval also covers the establishment of two other universities in Akwa Ibom and Oyo states.
Senator Barau, who sponsored the bill, described the transformation of the polytechnic into a full-fledged university as a milestone in the quest to expand access to quality higher education and equip Nigerian youths with critical skills for national development.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the Kano Central senator emphasized that education remains a fundamental pillar for societal advancement.
“Youths are the engine of national progress. Converting the Polytechnic into a University of Science and Technology aligns with global trends and addresses the urgent need to build human capital,” he said.
“In today’s digital age, fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, and other science-based disciplines are driving the global economy. This institution will help train our youths in these cutting-edge areas.”
Senator Barau extended his congratulations to the management, staff, students, and host communities of the institution, describing the development as a collective victory for education in Kano and Nigeria at large.
