Over 3,000 out-of-school girls in Adamawa State are set to receive a second chance at education through the Second Chance Education Opportunities for Out-of-School Girls and Young Women program.

Speaking at a one-day training workshop in Yola on Saturday, Madam Ruth Stanley disclosed that the initiative—under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE-AF)—is being implemented by the state government in collaboration with Rhoma Enterprise. She noted that the project would operate in 74 centers across the state.

Stanley explained that poverty and deprivation are the primary factors preventing many parents from sending their children, especially girls, to school. She emphasized that the program targets girls aged between 10 and 19 years, with benefits that include educational reintegration, health improvement, and poverty reduction within communities.

Dr. John Ngamsa Rhoma, Director and Chief Executive Officer of Rhoma Multimedia Resource Center, the lead consultant for the program, highlighted the need for active community involvement for the project to succeed.

He noted that an estimated 20 million children are currently out of school in Nigeria, with about 15 million of them in the northern region. “This project gives a new dimension to the campaign for education by ensuring community-driven efforts to return children to school,” he said.

Also speaking, Mr. Billy Graham Able, a media consultant with Rhoma Multimedia Resource Center, presented strategies and tools for effective implementation of the AGILE-AF program. He expressed optimism that the program will not only benefit the girls but also contribute positively to the development of Adamawa State and Nigeria at large.
