The Kebbi State chapter of the Military Widows Association (MIWA) has strongly refuted an online report alleging that its members were subjected to sexual harassment by senior military officials in Abuja before receiving their deceased husbands’ entitlements.
Addressing a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, the State Coordinator, Hajiya Asmau Kanoma, described the report as shocking and completely unfounded.
“I am shocked and astonished by the report circulating in some online media outlets claiming that our members were forced to endure sexual harassment by the Military High Command before accessing their deceased husbands’ benefits,” she said.
Hajiya Kanoma condemned the report as “baseless, fabricated, and entirely devoid of truth,” adding that it was neither issued nor supported by any legitimate representative of MIWA in Kebbi State.
“As leaders and members of this association, we completely disassociate ourselves from such claims. The report does not reflect our experiences or the reality of our members,” she asserted.
She urged the general public to disregard the report, reiterating that it does not represent the association’s stance or situation in Kebbi State.
Clarifying the process for obtaining entitlements, Hajiya Kanoma explained that access to benefits is typically handled through the deceased officer’s unit or formation, and that members of MIWA in the state have not faced any undue difficulties.
“Our members do not go through any cumbersome procedures before receiving their rightful entitlements,” she added.
The association reaffirmed its confidence in the existing system and called for responsible journalism to avoid spreading misinformation capable of causing unnecessary tension or distress.
