The National Hydro-electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to the development of communities under its mandate across the country.

This assurance was given by Nura Wakili, Head of Media and Public Affairs at the Commission, during a management post-programme and project evaluation exercise held on Tuesday in Minna, Niger State.

According to Wakili, the exercise aims to assess the viability and impact of projects executed across the 17 local government areas of Niger State that fall within the N-HYPPADEC operational areas. He said the Commission also seeks to mobilise community members to take ownership of these projects to ensure their sustainability and to encourage the implementation of more developmental interventions.

Speaking during the exercise, Pam Jedi, Acting Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the Commission, expressed satisfaction with the warm reception and appreciation from communities benefiting from N-HYPPADEC projects. He urged them to make judicious use of the facilities provided, noting that the projects are designed to ease local hardships and improve living conditions.

Also speaking, Umar Musa, the N-HYPPADEC Coordinator for Niger State, emphasized the importance of feedback from beneficiary communities to help the Commission identify challenges and proffer timely solutions. He encouraged proper use and maintenance of the facilities to ensure they serve the intended purpose effectively.

In his remarks, the Dagacin Shata, Abubakar Garba Kali, commended the Commission for its efforts, particularly the provision of potable water through motorised boreholes, construction of classrooms, and supply of furniture and educational materials in Bosso Local Government Area.

He assured the Commission of the community’s commitment to the proper use and maintenance of the provided infrastructure, while also appealing for additional projects to further uplift the area.

Communities visited during the evaluation include Shata, Magada, Shanu, and Minna Police Secondary School in Bosso LGA, as well as Angwan Daji, Limawa, and the College of Education, Minna, in Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State.
