Mr. Charles Ebuebu, Director General, National Broadcasting Commission
By Ammar Muhammad Rajab
One year after DAILY STRUGGLE Newspaper published an exclusive report exposing the National Broadcasting Commission’s (NBC) failure to maintain a functional website, the agency has finally restored its official web portal.
On May 30, 2025, a check by our correspondent confirmed that the NBC website, www.nbc.gov.ng, is now live and fully operational. Unlike previous attempts that returned security warnings and access errors, the site now opens promptly and contains comprehensive information about the commission’s mandate, services, and operations.
Our investigation shows that the updated website features a user-friendly interface, including a dedicated section for applying for radio and television licenses—one of NBC’s core responsibilities as Nigeria’s broadcast regulator.
It will be recalled that DAILY STRUGGLE’s May 24, 2024, report titled, “EXCLUSIVE: NBC’s Digital Shortcomings – A Major Agency Without a Functional Website,” detailed how the commission, despite being a major federal agency, lacked an operational website for over five months. The report included testimonies from stakeholders and citizens who expressed frustration over the inaccessibility of essential services and information.
Zainab Mahmoud, an aspiring community radio operator, had shared her struggle: “I tried to access the website in 2022 to learn how to apply for a radio license, but it wasn’t working. I wondered where to even begin.”
Following the exposé, several media professionals and civil society voices criticised the commission for neglecting its digital responsibilities in an increasingly online-driven world.
Reacting to the development, Yahaya M. Abdullahi, Editor-in-Chief of Africa Daily News, remarked: “NBC’s action shows the power of responsible journalism. We hope other agencies with non-functional websites will follow suit.”
Zainab Mahmoud also welcomed the change: “This move should be credited to the leadership of NBC. Director-General Charles Ebuebu has responded to the public’s call.”
NBC was established in 1992 to regulate the broadcasting industry in Nigeria. However, it has been widely criticised in recent years for its poor digital infrastructure, a flaw that DAILY STRUGGLE’s investigative reporting powerfully brought to light.
Now, with the website finally restored, the commission has taken a significant step toward fulfilling its mandate in the digital age—improving transparency, accessibility, and service delivery to the public.
