Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has awarded scholarships to five public school pupils who represented Nigeria and emerged winners at an international debate competition held in Indonesia.

The Governor made the announcement during a ceremony at the Government House, Minna, where the victorious students and the trophy were formally presented to him.

He stated that the scholarship will cover their education from secondary school through tertiary level. He further pledged that any of the recipients who excel academically would be sponsored to study overseas.

Governor Bago commended the students for their remarkable achievement and for bringing pride to both Niger State and Nigeria. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting the education sector to sustain and build on such successes.

In recognition of their efforts, the Governor also announced a cash reward of N500,000 for each of the students' parents, and N5 million for the officials who accompanied them to the competition.

The students reportedly competed in two rounds of debates and emerged overall winners, beating other international contenders.

In a related development, students of the Niger State School for Special Education presented a trophy they won at the National Deaf Secondary Schools Football Championship held in Nasarawa State. Nasarawa emerged champions, while Team Niger placed second and Bauchi came third after progressing through the group stage, semi-finals, and final.

Governor Bago congratulated the football team for their performance and reiterated his administration’s unwavering support for inclusive education and special needs students.
