TIME Magazine has named Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man and founder of the Dangote Group, among the World’s Top 100 Philanthropists for 2025. The recognition honours his transformative contributions to education, healthcare, and economic empowerment across the African continent.
Dangote earned his place on the prestigious list through the impactful work of the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF), which has invested billions of naira in initiatives aimed at reducing poverty, combating disease, and bridging educational gaps.
Among the foundation’s notable efforts is a $500 million commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Nigeria. This includes substantial support in the fight against Ebola and COVID-19, as well as major endowments to universities to promote STEM education.
“Aliko Dangote’s philanthropy reflects a deep commitment to uplifting communities and fostering sustainable development,” TIME’s editorial board noted. “His strategic investments are reshaping Africa’s social and economic landscape.”
The foundation’s recent $20 million pledge to support smallholder farmers through agricultural training and microfinancing was also highlighted. These programs focus on empowering women and youth, particularly in rural Nigeria. Dangote’s philanthropic reach extends beyond national borders, with initiatives in Cameroon, Ghana, and South Africa targeting clean water access and vocational training.
Reacting to the recognition, Dangote said: “Philanthropy is not just about giving; it’s about creating opportunities for people to thrive. I am honoured to be recognised and remain committed to driving change in Africa.”
Now in its third year, the TIME 100 Philanthropists list celebrates individuals whose charitable endeavours have made a meaningful global impact. Dangote joins other global luminaries on the 2025 list, including Melinda French Gates and MacKenzie Scott.
