The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has disowned a fake online youth empowerment scheme currently circulating on social media platforms, warning the public to disregard the fraudulent message and avoid falling victim to cybercriminals.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the Commission alerted the public to a bogus website — https://nddc-empowerment.alloffer.pro/gift — falsely promoting a non-existent "₦1,000,000 NDDC Youth Empowerment Program 2025."
The fake platform, according to the Commission, claims that NDDC Chairman, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, has launched a nationwide youth empowerment scheme open to all Nigerians. The Commission described the scheme as entirely fraudulent and aimed at luring unsuspecting youths into submitting their personal information under false pretences.
“The fraudsters behind this misleading information are luring youths to submit their personal information to be among the so-called beneficiaries,” the statement read. “It is indeed disturbing that some mischievous individuals are trying to take advantage of our youths who are genuinely eager to be gainfully engaged in legitimate activities.”
The NDDC stressed that it had no affiliation with the fake website or its promoters, emphasizing that the Commission remains committed to transparency and the genuine empowerment of youths across the Niger Delta region.
“This fake registration platform is the handiwork of fraudsters who are out to dupe innocent people and, in the process, bring the NDDC and its management into disrepute,” the agency said.
Thompson-Wakama revealed that security agencies have been notified and investigations are ongoing to identify and prosecute those behind the scam.
The Commission urged members of the public to verify any information concerning its programmes and activities through its official website, www.nddc.gov.ng, or its verified social media accounts.
“We advise members of the public, especially our youths, to be cautious of scammers and seek information only from NDDC official channels,” the statement concluded.
