Professor Jibril Aminu, a distinguished Nigerian scholar, politician, and diplomat, has passed away at the age of 85, according to a family source.
The news was confirmed by Honourable Abdullahi Prambe, the Adamawa State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, in an exclusive statement to the media in Yola.
Prof. Aminu, who marked his 85th birthday on August 25, 2024, was a towering figure in Nigeria’s academic and political landscape. Born in Song, Adamawa State, in 1939, he had an illustrious career spanning medicine, education, and public service.
A renowned Consultant Cardiologist and respected educational administrator, Prof. Aminu served Nigeria in various capacities, including as Minister of Education, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, and Senator representing Adamawa Central.
Hon. Prambe expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Prof. Aminu as a mentor and a beacon of leadership for Adamawa State and Nigeria as a whole.
“His contributions to education, healthcare, and governance will remain etched in our history,” he said.
As of the time of this report, the family has not released an official statement regarding the cause of death or funeral arrangements.
