The Chairman of Dandume Local Government Area, Hon. Bashir Sabi’u Gyazama, has pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Local Education Authority (LEA) to revitalize and improve the education sector within the council area.
This commitment was made during a courtesy visit to the Chairman by the LEA management team, led by the Education Secretary, Alhaji Umaru Amiru, and the Supervisory Councillor for Education, Hon. Magaji Yusuf, held at the council secretariat.
The visit, according to a statement issued by the Dandume Local Government Information Officer, Alhaji Bashir Yero, was aimed at fostering synergy between the council and the education authority for enhanced service delivery in the education sector.
In his remarks, Alhaji Umaru Amiru outlined key achievements recorded under his leadership, including the construction of 60 new primary schools and the renovation of several others. However, he noted that challenges still persist, particularly in the areas of inadequate funding and shortage of qualified teachers.
"This is the first time such an engagement is taking place between the council leadership and the LEA management,” Amiru stated. “We appreciate the Chairman’s openness and we urge him to visit our offices to see firsthand the challenges facing basic education in Dandume.”
Hon. Magaji Yusuf also commended the leadership of both the Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, and the Local Government Chairman for their proactive stance in addressing issues affecting education in the area.
In response, Hon. Bashir Sabi’u Gyazama thanked the LEA management for their dedication and expressed his administration’s willingness to support educational reforms in the local government.
“I am particularly concerned about the issue of teachers who have been transferred to other local government areas but are still being paid by Dandume LEA. We will initiate steps to bring them back to address the teaching staff shortage,” he said.
The Chairman also revealed plans to review the allowances of casual teachers, stating:
"We are considering an upward review of their stipends to ₦20,000, subject to financial feasibility.”
Furthermore, he announced the establishment of a special committee on education, tasked with identifying key areas of intervention and recommending sustainable solutions for educational development in the area.
The meeting was described by stakeholders as a significant step toward aligning local education policies with broader state government objectives and addressing long-standing structural and operational challenges.
