In the early hours of Monday, 7th July 2025, a petrol tanker belonging to Mai Kifi Petroleum was involved in an accident along the Kango-Lapai axis, near Gidan Zuma.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m., prompted a swift response from operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Area ‘I’ Command, Lapai Division.

Upon receiving a distress call, NSCDC personnel quickly mobilized to the scene to secure the area, prevent a possible fire outbreak, and ensure road safety. The officers also took immediate action to deter members of the public from attempting to scoop fuel from the fallen tanker—an act that poses serious safety risks.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, and there was no immediate danger when officials arrived at the scene.

As of the time of filing this report, NSCDC personnel remain on-site, awaiting the arrival of another tanker from Suleja to commence the safe transloading of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The NSCDC Lapai Command reiterated its commitment to public safety and urged residents to avoid the area until the operation is safely concluded. The command also advised the public to promptly report similar incidents and refrain from endangering lives through fuel scooping.
