The President of the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) Group of Universities, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has been conferred with the prestigious “Trailblazer in Tertiary Education Award” by Blueprint Newspaper.

The award presentation, which took place on Tuesday, 22nd July, 2025, was held at the Ladi Kwali Hall of the Abuja Continental Hotel during the Blueprint Newspaper Annual Lecture, Impact Series, and Awards Ceremony.

The high-profile event attracted a galaxy of dignitaries including Governors, Ministers, lawmakers, policymakers, captains of industry, and top public servants who gathered to honour distinguished personalities contributing to Nigeria’s development.

Under his stewardship, the institution has expanded access to quality university education, earning accolades both nationally and internationally.

According to the management of Blueprint Newspaper, the award celebrates Professor Gwarzo’s unwavering dedication to educational excellence, youth empowerment, and nation-building. He was lauded for his vision and commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education landscape and for playing a pivotal role in promoting academic growth across the country.

The ceremony also witnessed honours being bestowed upon several other eminent Nigerians across categories such as good governance, public service, innovation, and community development.

Among the key personalities present were the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin; and Special Adviser to the President and National Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform Initiative, Professor Attahiru Jega.
