Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central) has been removed as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations.
The announcement was made during Thursday’s plenary session, though no official reason was provided for the decision.
She has been replaced by Senator Aniekan Bassey, who represents Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District.
While the Senate did not issue a formal explanation, the change is widely believed to be linked to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s unresolved suspension. Insiders say her removal from the chairmanship may have been a consequence of the disciplinary action taken against her.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was appointed to head the Diaspora Committee on February 4, 2025, after being removed as Chair of the Senate Committee on Local Content earlier in the session.
As of press time, the Senate leadership has not commented on whether further actions related to her suspension will follow.
