A senior citizen, Alhaji Ahmed Iliyasu, has called on political leaders across the country to prioritise justice, fairness, and integrity as essential values for quality leadership.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Bauchi, Iliyasu—a former Commissioner with the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC)—said the appeal was crucial to promoting good governance at all levels.
He emphasised the importance of honesty, trust, and impartiality in leadership, urging those in positions of authority not to betray the public trust.
The octogenarian, reflecting on the importance of transparency, urged leaders to always act in the best interest of their constituents, noting that Nigeria’s future depends on credible and principled leadership.
“Politicians should follow the examples of our respected leaders and founding fathers, who were known for their selfless service to the people,” he said.
“There is too much self-interest and greed in politics today. We must return to the values of our founding fathers—values built on honesty, sincerity, integrity, and humility. Nigeria needs trustworthy and visionary leaders.”
Alhaji Iliyasu also called on the electorate to be more discerning and to demand better leadership by supporting candidates who demonstrate genuine commitment to national development.
