The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Niger State chapter, has commended Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for appointing Alhaji Danjuma Abdul Masu as the pioneer Chairman of the newly established Niger State Sports Commission (NSSC).

In a congratulatory message, the association also lauded Masu’s appointment, describing it as timely and strategic for the revival of the state’s sports sector.

A statement signed by the association's Secretary, Chinwendu Nnadozie, noted that the creation of the Sports Commission—formerly operating as the Niger State Sports Council under the Ministry of Youth and Sports—signals a new phase for sports development in the state.

“The appointment of Alhaji Danjuma Abdul Masu is a clear case of putting a round peg in a round hole. It will no doubt drive the desired transformation in the sports sector and contribute positively to the state’s economic and social development,” the statement read.

The association described Masu as a passionate sports enthusiast whose contributions to the growth and development of sports in the state are widely acknowledged. It expressed confidence that his leadership will bring renewed energy, vision, and structure to the sports sector.

“SWAN believes that Alhaji Masu possesses the requisite experience, passion, and leadership qualities to reposition the sports landscape in Niger State to meet the needs and aspirations of its people,” the statement added.

The association further emphasized that the appointment reflects Governor Bago’s commitment to revitalizing sporting infrastructure, fostering talent development, and positioning Niger as a leading hub for diverse sporting activities in the country.

With Masu at the helm of the Sports Commission, SWAN expressed optimism that Niger State will reclaim its position as a dominant force in Nigerian sports.
