Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters and convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, has launched a blistering rebuke of Nigeria’s political elite, distancing himself from what he described as a legacy of corruption, betrayal, and state-sanctioned impunity.
In a strongly worded statement released on Tuesday, Sowore declared that he had never associated himself with the powerful figures he accused of aiding Nigeria’s descent into economic hardship, insecurity, and democratic regression.
“I did not join Bola Ahmed Tinubu in distributing heroin and cocaine in Chicago,” Sowore said, referencing long-standing allegations surrounding the president’s past.
He also called out former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of “looting the Nigerian Customs dry,” and ex-Senate President David Mark for allegedly diverting funds intended for Nigeria’s telecommunications sector and playing a role in the annulment of the historic June 12, 1993 election.
Sowore extended his criticism to former Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, accusing him of "violating human rights and looting the treasury under Muhammadu Buhari’s watch," and to Nasir El-Rufai, whom he linked to the massacre of Shiites and communal violence in Southern Kaduna.
“I did not join Peter Obi at the Tin Can Ports while he cleared goods for Sani Abacha, the same Abacha that was dismantling Nigeria brick by brick,” he said, in a statement that also named former governors Sule Lamido and Rotimi Amaechi for their alleged roles in political betrayal and economic mismanagement.
“I have never joined an armed robbery gang. I have never pledged allegiance to any cult—no matter how popular, powerful, or fanciful,” Sowore continued.
Declaring his only allegiance to be with “the oppressed, the disenfranchised, the cheated, the silenced,” the former presidential candidate emphasized his commitment to revolutionary change and the restoration of dignity for ordinary Nigerians.
“Let it be known: I stand with a vanguard of justice. A coalition of truth. A revolutionary team to restore the dignity of Nigerians,” he said.
The statement ends with a rallying cry under the familiar hashtag of his political campaign: #RevolutionNow.
