The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the newly commissioned Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre generated ₦650 million in revenue within just three weeks of operation.

Wike made the revelation on Thursday, July 3, during a media chat in Abuja. He compared the recent earnings with the previous revenue record of only ₦50 million annually before the renovation and rebranding of the centre.

“Now let me tell you how this country works. The man they gave it (conference centre) to was paying ₦50 million to the FCT every year. That place was commissioned on June 10, and the revenue made within three weeks was ₦650 million. Why? People love good things,” Wike said.

He added that the centre's transformation has attracted significant attention both locally and internationally, with top-tier events being hosted at the venue.

“The President hosted the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) heads of state in that international conference centre. Go and see the comments from the ambassadors. People are rushing to that place now.”

According to the minister, demand for the facility has surged so much that it is fully booked through 2027.

“In fact, there’s no space. As I speak, it has been booked up to 2027,” he stated.

Addressing criticisms over naming the centre after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Wike defended his decision:

“Now you’re saying, why did I name it after Tinubu. Who should I name it after? Who is more qualified?”

The Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre was commissioned on June 10 and is part of the FCT administration’s broader efforts to enhance infrastructure and attract investments through public-private partnerships.
