The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, has clarified its inclusion in the federal government's subsidised kidney dialysis programme, following public concern over its omission from a recently circulated list of participating hospitals.
In a statement issued Wednesday by the hospital’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Mr. Usman Abdullahi Koli, ATBUTH emphasised that it has been offering the subsidised dialysis service at the approved rate of ₦12,000 per session since January 8, 2025.
Koli revealed that 897 patients have so far benefited from the intervention, with all consumables included within the approved cost.
“These services have benefited not only residents of Bauchi State but also patients from across the North-East and neighbouring states,” he said.
Beyond dialysis, Koli stated that ATBUTH has been a frontline partner in the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda for healthcare delivery. He noted that since November 2024, the hospital has implemented the Free Cesarean Section Programme, which covers surgery, post-operative care, medications, and treatment for both mother and newborn.
“More than 1,000 women and babies have already benefited from this intervention,” he added.
The hospital is also among the pioneer institutions implementing the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS). Since its official launch in Bauchi by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, ATBUTH has provided up to 48 hours of free emergency care to over 500 patients.
Koli reaffirmed the hospital’s appreciation for the federal government’s support, particularly through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in advancing access to affordable, quality healthcare across Nigeria.
“As a tertiary hospital strategically located in the North-East, ATBUTH remains fully aligned with the Ministry’s vision of expanding healthcare services to the most vulnerable segments of society,” he stated.
He stressed that ATBUTH is not only part of the subsidised kidney dialysis programme but is also actively involved in multiple national health initiatives that are directly improving lives.
“Our commitment remains unwavering—to continue alleviating the hardship faced by Nigerians, especially the most vulnerable, with the support of the Federal Government,” Koli concluded.
