A respected academic from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Abdullahi Danladi, has issued a stern warning over the reported entry of Israeli intelligence agency Mossad into Nigeria, calling it a “dangerous surrender of national sovereignty under the guise of security cooperation.”

In a widely circulated statement titled “Mossad and the Auctioning of Nigeria’s Sovereignty,” the don, who is also a member of the Resource Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, criticised the move by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing it as “an act of treachery” that could expose the nation to foreign exploitation and control.

“The presence of Mossad on Nigerian soil is not a sign of strategic partnership, but a calculated intrusion disguised as assistance,” Prof. Danladi wrote. “It is a betrayal of our independence and an open invitation to surveillance, manipulation, and resource capture.”

Danladi's position aligns with sentiments already expressed by several prominent figures and groups, including Islamic scholar Sheikh Dr. Abubakar Gumi and the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), both of whom have openly denounced the government’s reported dealings with the Israeli agency.

The professor warned that Nigeria risks becoming a puppet state if the Mossad operation is not rejected outright, stating, “Those who invited Mossad are not acting for the people. They are selling the nation’s future for personal and political gain.”

Prof. Danladi highlighted Mossad’s controversial history across various continents—from alleged involvement in the post-Lumumba Congo crisis to collaboration with apartheid South Africa and intelligence operations in Iran, Lebanon, and Latin America.

He raised alarm over possible espionage on Nigerian leaders, journalists, military personnel, and economic stakeholders, suggesting that critical national data could be extracted and transmitted abroad, particularly to Tel Aviv.

“This is not national protection; it is foreign oversight by stealth,” he declared.

In addition to security concerns, Danladi warned of economic encroachment through Israeli-affiliated firms that may leverage Mossad’s presence to take control of strategic resources, including oil, gas, and uranium.

He also predicted political destabilisation, arguing that Mossad’s record shows a tendency to manipulate internal divisions, arm factions, and prolong unrest to justify continued presence.

“Do not expect terrorism to end,” he wrote. “Expect it to be managed, prolonged, and possibly engineered.”

The ABU professor called on Nigerians—particularly civil society, religious leaders, and the press—to resist what he described as “the creeping erosion of our sovereignty.”

“If we fail to resist, Nigeria risks being sold off piece by piece until nothing is left to call our own,” he warned.
