The Emir of Gwandu and Chairman of the Kebbi State Council of Traditional Rulers, Maj.-Gen. Iliyasu Bashir (rtd.), has called on Nigerians, particularly the people of Kebbi State, to pray for their leaders instead of criticizing their leadership styles.

He made the appeal on Friday during a condolence visit by the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, following the death of the Emir’s sister, Hajiya Maina Haruna Rasheed, who passed away on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi after a prolonged illness.

The royal father described the growing trend of public condemnation of leaders as dangerous, warning that no society can achieve meaningful progress in an atmosphere of disrespect and constant criticism of its leadership.

“We must focus on what unites us and promotes peace and stability,” the Emir said. “Only through unity and prayers can we build a better and more prosperous society.”

He also expressed sorrow over the recent deaths of his sister, the Emir of Zuru, and former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the losses as deeply painful. The Emir prayed for Allah’s mercy on their souls and for them to be granted Jannatul Firdaus.

In his remarks, Governor Nasir Idris expressed gratitude to the Emir for his continuous support and wise counsel, which he said have contributed significantly to the progress of his administration.

The governor said he was at the palace to commiserate with the royal father over the passing of his sister, whom he described as a guiding figure who mentored many towards righteousness. He prayed for her eternal rest and urged the Emir and the bereaved family to take heart.
