The First Lady of Nigeria and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched a nationwide economic empowerment programme for 18,500 women, with the flag-off ceremony held in Minna, the capital of Niger State.

The initiative, sponsored by the RHI in collaboration with the Tony Elumelu Foundation, aims to empower 500 women from each state of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Each beneficiary will receive a grant of ₦50,000 to support and recapitalise their existing small-scale businesses, enabling them to provide for their families, educate their children, and uplift their communities.

Senator Tinubu announced that the programme was simultaneously launched in Niger and Adamawa States. She expressed appreciation to the Tony Elumelu Foundation for donating ₦1 billion to RHI, describing the gesture as generous and commendable.

In her remarks, the wife of the Niger State Governor and State Coordinator of the RHI, Hajiya Fatima Umaru Bago, praised the First Lady’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerian women. She noted that the RHI is making a visible and lasting impact, both in Niger State and across the country.

Hajiya Fatima also lauded the partnership between the RHI and the Tony Elumelu Foundation, urging the beneficiaries to use the grants wisely to achieve the intended goals of the programme.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Niger State Governor on Women and Affirmative Action, Mrs. Mary Noel-Berje, commended Senator Tinubu for her compassion, empathy, and dedication to women’s empowerment. She also praised Governor Umaru Bago for his inclusive leadership, which continues to promote the participation of women in governance and leadership roles.
