The Fulani youth group, Sai Bago Again Organisation, has called on the Niger State Government to establish modern livestock markets across the three senatorial zones of the state. The call was made in a press statement issued on Thursday evening and jointly signed by the state coordinator, Amb. Dr. Mujahid Adam, and the state secretary, Comrade Sulaiman Ruga.

According to the organisation, the proposed markets—covering Niger North, Niger South, and Niger East—would not only generate additional revenue for the state but also create employment opportunities for young people. They argued that such an initiative would help combat livestock theft, as it would be easier to track and recover stolen animals brought for sale in the designated markets.

The group added that the creation of modern livestock markets aligns with the state government’s broader development agenda, especially in light of its efforts to restructure administrative and economic activities within the newly proposed Niger State framework. The markets, they proposed, should be equipped with police stations, other security agencies, guest houses, places of worship, and designated parking spaces for trucks. These truck operators, in addition to paying livestock-related taxes, would also be taxed for using the market facilities.

Commenting on the proposal, a youth advocate and supporter of the state government, Alhaji Shehu Jita Kango, welcomed the idea, describing it as timely and impactful. He noted that, given the prevailing economic challenges, the project could be actualized through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. According to him, this would fast-track its implementation without overstretching the government’s finances.

Alhaji Jita further emphasized that the proposed markets would enhance security, boost internally generated revenue, and offer meaningful employment for youths. He added that the initiative would empower young people to live productive lives while also equipping the state with additional resources to pursue its developmental goals.
