Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has offered provisional employment to all beneficiaries of Senator Muhammad Sani Musa’s International Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme.
The governor made the announcement during the official pre-departure briefing and unveiling ceremony for 100 beneficiaries of the 2025 scholarship programme, initiated by the senator representing Niger East Senatorial District.
Governor Bago also donated $2,000 to each beneficiary and an additional ₦1 million to each of their parents in recognition of their parental roles.
He commended Senator Musa for the initiative, describing him as a visionary leader and “one of the best brains” from the state. The governor revealed that the senator had also offered 30 additional scholarship slots to the Niger State Government for students to study science-related courses in China.
Bago reiterated his administration’s plan to sponsor 1,000 students abroad and urged the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of Niger State while studying overseas.
In his remarks, Senator Musa said the scholarship scheme was designed to complement Governor Bago’s transformational agenda for building a “New Niger.” He explained that the programme targets brilliant young Nigerians and announced that applications would soon open for the next phase, which will focus on medical, biomedical, robotics, and artificial intelligence-related fields.
The Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Faruk Bahago, praised the senator for creating opportunities for underprivileged youths to further their education and contribute to national development.
Chairman of the International Scholarship Committee, Ibrahim Balarabe, disclosed that more than 600 applications were received for three priority fields—medical sciences, information technology, and engineering. He said the 100 beneficiaries were selected through a rigorous process, including drug testing, academic verification, and background checks.
Former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada, lauded the initiative, describing education as “the best legacy” for the next generation. He urged the beneficiaries to remain focused, avoid negative influences, and make the most of the opportunity.
Speaking on behalf of parents, Mrs. Paulina Dami Dami expressed gratitude to Senator Musa for the life-changing initiative. Similarly, Habib Sabi Imam, representing the beneficiaries, pledged that they would not disappoint the people of Niger State.
