The Jigawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the media as part of efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and public awareness of its policies and programmes.

The Deputy Governor, Engr. Aminu Usman, gave the assurance when he received executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, who paid him a courtesy visit.

He expressed appreciation for the long-standing cordial relationship between the state government and the NUJ, describing the media as a crucial partner in sustaining democracy, peace, and good governance.

Engr. Usman commended journalists for their role in publicising the activities of Governor Umar Namadi’s administration and underscored the importance of accurate and responsible reporting.

Highlighting some of the administration’s key achievements, the Deputy Governor noted significant progress in sectors such as agriculture, education, and infrastructure.

He also expressed interest in visiting the NUJ Secretariat to gain firsthand insight into the working conditions and challenges of media professionals in the state.

Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ Jigawa State Council, Comrade Ismail Ibrahim Dutse, introduced the new executive members of the union.

He lauded the Namadi administration for implementing people-oriented policies and reiterated the union’s commitment to press freedom and professional ethics.

“We are dedicated to upholding the Code of Ethics for Nigerian Journalists as established by the Nigerian Press Organisation,” Dutse stated.

He assured the Deputy Governor of the NUJ's readiness to collaborate with the government in advancing the welfare of the people and promoting good governance.

Comrade Dutse, however, raised concerns about the dilapidated condition of the union’s secretariat, appealing for government support in renovating the facility and providing essential office furniture.

He also sought assistance for the training and re-training of journalists to equip them with global best practices in modern journalism.

In addition, the NUJ Chairman requested the provision of a utility vehicle to support the union’s operations, noting that it remains the only industrial union in the state without a functional official vehicle.
