The Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST) has established a new Directorate of Affiliation, Collaboration, and Linkages (DACL) as part of its ongoing institutional reforms. The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute, Dr. Auwal Mustapha Imam, approved the creation of the new Directorate on Monday and appointed Mrs. Asabe Adamu Bala as its Coordinating Director.
According to Dr. Imam, the establishment of the directorate aligns with NILEST’s preparedness to commence degree programmes through academic affiliations. The Directorate will be responsible for enhancing partnerships with both local and international institutions, increasing the visibility of the Institute, and promoting collaboration in research and innovation. It is also expected to deepen engagements with industry stakeholders, academic institutions, government agencies, and development partners.
Dr. Imam explained that the move reflects the broader vision of his administration to expand the scope of NILEST’s operations, strengthen institutional capacity, and foster sustainable collaborations that benefit the country’s scientific and technological development. He added that his leadership had already built productive synergies with state and local governments across Nigeria, and the new Directorate will further consolidate these efforts.
In a related development, the Director-General also announced the appointment of several key officers within the Institute. Mallam Tanimu Garba has been named Establishment Secretary, Bilikisu B. Mohammed is the new Academic Secretary, Mallam Aliyu Labbo has been appointed Head of the SERVICOM Unit, while Mrs. Comfort K. Joseph will now head the Open Registry. All appointments take immediate effect.
