Kano Governor Issues Tough Warning to Officials After Commissioner’s Resignation Over Drug Suspect Bail

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has issued a strong warning to all public officials in Kano State, following the resignation of the Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi Dala, who stepped down over his involvement in the bail process of a suspected drug offender.

The warning was contained in a statement issued by the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Wednesday, shortly after the 30th Executive Council meeting held in Kano.

According to the statement, Governor Yusuf expressed deep displeasure over the incident and urged his cabinet members and all public officials to uphold the highest standards of integrity and discipline.

“Let it be clear: we will not tolerate any conduct—official or private—that undermines the values we stand for. Every public official must be vigilant and responsible in their dealings,” the governor said, as quoted by Bature in the official release.

He continued, “You are not only representing your office but the integrity of the entire administration. If anyone among you feels he can no longer uphold the trust bestowed upon him, it is better to voluntarily resign than to engage in misconduct that could tarnish the image of this administration.”

Governor Yusuf emphasized that the fight against drug abuse, trafficking, and all social vices remains one of the core pillars of his administration, warning that anyone found aiding or abetting such acts—either directly or indirectly—will face the full weight of the law.

"We came into office with a clear mandate to restore sanity, integrity, and progress in Kano. That mission will not be compromised,” he said.

The governor, through Bature's statement, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to justice, accountability, and service delivery, stating that the resignation of the commissioner should serve as a cautionary tale for all political appointees and civil servants.

The development marks a significant moment in Governor Yusuf’s ongoing effort to enforce ethical standards and maintain public trust in government.
