The Federal Ministry of Education has lauded the Yobe State Government for its remarkable achievements in the delivery of basic education, particularly its proactive approach and commitment to educational development.

In a letter of commendation addressed to Governor Mai Mala Buni and personally signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the federal government acknowledged Yobe’s sustained efforts toward foundational learning and access to quality education.

“I write to convey the commendation of Your Excellency's unwavering commitment to advancing the basic education sector in Yobe State,” the Minister stated in the letter.

Dr. Alausa praised the Buni-led administration for treating education as a developmental priority, describing the state’s approach as "exemplary."

“Your proactive approach is exemplary and reflects a sustained prioritization of foundational education as a catalyst for development geared towards improving educational outcomes for the over 967,301 children of basic education age in Yobe State,” the Minister added.

He also noted, with appreciation, that Yobe State had fully accessed its 2024 Universal Basic Education (UBE) matching grant—a key funding mechanism for educational development at the state level.

The Minister’s letter coincided with international acclaim for Yobe students, as three girls from the state—Nafisa Abdullah, Rukayya Muhammad Fema, and Khadija Kashim—emerged world champions at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, United Kingdom. The global competition featured 20,000 participants from 69 countries.

Responding to the commendation, Governor Buni described it as a morale booster for his administration, pledging to redouble efforts in education.

“This recognition will serve as a springboard to achieve higher targets in advancing education in the state,” Buni said.

He extended gratitude to teachers, parents, and all stakeholders for their continued support of the government’s education policies and programmes.

The letter was made public in a statement signed by Mamman Mohammed, Director General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor.
