An awareness and knowledge-sharing conference organized by the KALM Community Initiative (KCI) was successfully held at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, attracting a diverse audience of young people, educators, and government officials. The event focused on youth empowerment through modern technology and digital innovation.
In his keynote address, the Director of the Kano State Information Technology Development Agency (KASITDA) announced that the Kano State Government has committed to training 1.5 million youths between 2025 and 2027. The training will cover digital literacy, content creation, coding, and other emerging tech skills vital for the digital economy.
The initiative is structured into three tiers—beginner, intermediate, and advanced—to accommodate participants based on their current skill levels. According to the agency, over 150,000 youths have already enrolled in the pilot phase, with more than 1,100 completing training at various tech centers across the state.
One of the standout components of the initiative is the HEAT Challenge, designed to inspire young innovators to develop tech-driven solutions in four key sectors: Health, Education, Agriculture, and Transportation. Participants with the most promising ideas will receive government backing, including funding and logistical support to launch their own startups.
The KASITDA director further disclosed that the training program will be expanded beyond urban areas to include schools and rural communities, ensuring equitable access and inclusivity. He emphasized that the broader aim is to shift the youth mindset from dependence on government jobs to entrepreneurship and digital self-reliance.
Speaking at the event, KCI reaffirmed its commitment to creating opportunities for young people, particularly those with talent and ambition but limited access to resources. Through its partnership with KASITDA, the organization aims to equip youths with the skills and support needed to become active contributors to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
At the close of the event, the program coordinator, Ms. A’isha Muhammad, expressed satisfaction with the smooth execution and the enthusiastic response from participants and stakeholders alike. She remarked that the conference had achieved its goals and sparked renewed optimism among attendees.
The event concluded on a high note, with participants leaving inspired and energized to explore the new opportunities ahead.
