Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has described Nigeria's Independence as a historic milestone that liberated the nation from colonial rule and paved the way for self-determination, socio-economic growth, and political development.

In a goodwill message issued by his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado on Tuesday, to mark Nigeria's 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the Governor congratulated the people of Bauchi State and Nigerians across the country.

He urged citizens to reflect on whether the noble ideals of the nation's founding fathers had been fully realised after 65 years of self-rule.

"Though our development trajectory may not equal that of some countries that gained independence at the same time, especially the Asian Tigers, Nigeria has recorded remarkable progress in self-governance, managing diversity, and uniting for nation-building," he stated.

Governor Mohammed acknowledged that years of military rule slowed democratic growth but expressed satisfaction that, after 26 years of uninterrupted democracy, Nigerians are beginning to enjoy the dividends of good governance.

He reiterated his administration's commitment to sustaining multi-sectoral development, with emphasis on infrastructure, security, and economic empowerment.

The Governor further disclosed that arrangements had been finalised for the Bauchi State Investment Summit, scheduled for October 8 to 9, 2025, which aims to attract investors to harness the state's vast economic potential.

On security, Mohammed reaffirmed that peace is the foundation of development, pledging continued collaboration with security agencies to protect lives and property.

He also appealed to residents to support security operations by promptly reporting suspicious activities to relevant authorities.

He called on the people of Bauchi State to rededicate themselves to national development, stressing the importance of unity, prayer, and peaceful coexistence in moving both the state and the nation forward.

"Let us continue to work together in harmony, with hope in our hearts and faith in Almighty Allah, to make our state and our country greater," he urged.

Governor Mohammed wished Nigerians a happy 65th Independence Anniversary celebration.
