The Bauchi State Muslim Parliament, popularly known as Majlis-Shura, has called on Muslim faithful across the country to fully support efforts aimed at combating the persistent insecurity, including banditry and kidnapping, threatening lives and livelihoods.

The appeal was made by the Parliament’s Organising Secretary, Alhaji Yahaya Tanimu, during a one-day workshop on leadership and good governance held at the Bauchi Central Mosque Conference Hall. The event drew participants from across the state, including Imams, Islamic scholars, leaders of religious organisations, and other key stakeholders.

Tanimu reaffirmed the Parliament's commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence and unity among citizens, stressing that collective efforts are crucial in addressing the growing security challenges, particularly in Northern Nigeria.

He expressed concern over the absence of a robust security architecture, which he said has left many communities exposed and vulnerable.

Tanimu also commended the support of Senator Shehu Buba Umar, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and National Intelligence, for his endorsement of the initiative. He noted that Senator Buba recognises the programme’s significance in promoting peace and strengthening national security.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the Muslim Parliament, Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Jahun, said the workshop aimed to empower participants with the tools to promote peace, teach conflict resolution from an Islamic perspective, and encourage community cohesion.

Participants from all 20 local government areas of Bauchi State pledged to cascade the knowledge gained at the workshop to their communities, with the hope of fostering lasting peace and harmony.
