Hon. (Barr.) Mahmud Lawal Ismaila, member representing Zaria City Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, has reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive education, community development, and youth empowerment during a series of impactful engagements held on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

The lawmaker attended the Kaduna State Deaf Qur’anic in Sign Language Competition and the Grand Launching of the Qur’an in Sign Language for the Deaf, organized by the Al-Furqan Deaf Islamic Da’wah Association, Kaduna Branch.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Lawal described the gathering as insightful and inspiring, particularly as young participants between the ages of 7 and 15 demonstrated strong understanding and fluency in the Holy Qur’an through sign language. He expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to witness the occasion and commended the dedication of the organizers, teachers, and parents involved in supporting Deaf Qur’anic education.

In a bid to further strengthen Islamic education for the Deaf community, Hon. Lawal urged the Al-Furqan Association to collaborate with the Center for Islamic Legal Studies (CILS) at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the Center for Qur’anic Science Education at Kaduna State University. He also launched 10 copies of the Qur’an in Sign Language, donating five copies each to CILS ABU Zaria and the KASU center at a cost of ₦140,000.

Hon. Lawal also visited families in Limancin Kona Ward to offer condolences. He visited the family of Malam Doge Gidan Kanwa in Karauka, where four people lost their lives following the collapse of a room-building. He also condoled with the family of Malam Hajji over the passing of Gali Money’s mother in Kusfa, and with the family of Malam Kabir Uba, the APC Ward Chairman, who lost his mother in Salmanduna. He prayed for the deceased, asking Allah to grant them Al-Jannah Firdaus.

Later in the day, the lawmaker held a series of interactive engagements with youth and community groups at Elsa College. During a meeting with the Takowa Ability in Disability Dairy Farmers Cooperative Society Ltd, led by the Sarkin Guragun Lardin Zazzau, the group expressed appreciation for his support and named him the patron of the association. They noted that many of their members are people with disabilities who rely on dairy farming to feed their families. Hon. Lawal accepted the role and donated ₦30,000 for transportation and ₦100,000 to support one of the members.

He also met with the Kusfa, Limancin Kona Youths Forum, whose representatives commended his contributions to education, empowerment, and health. They pledged support for the APC and requested inclusion in all programs. Hon. Lawal welcomed their support and donated ₦50,000 to assist with their transportation. In another meeting with youths from Kofar Doka, Babban Dodo, and Durumi, the conversation focused on youth unemployment and conflict resolution. The lawmaker reaffirmed his support and provided ₦100,000 to aid their initiatives.

Hon. Lawal, who serves as Deputy Chief Whip and Chairman of the House Committee on Education, emphasized that the Kaduna State House of Assembly remains committed to ensuring that young people have access to meaningful opportunities that contribute to the development of the state.
