The Governor of Niger State, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising the welfare and professional development of teachers across the state.

Represented by his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, Governor Bago made this known during the official flag-off of a three-day induction training workshop for lower and upper basic classroom teachers, school administrators, and Early Childhood Care Development and Education (ECCDE) teachers. The event was held at the Niger State Teachers’ Professional Development Institute (NSTPDI) in Minna.

Deputy Governor Garba noted that the state government is taking concrete steps to revive and upgrade decaying school infrastructure, while also ensuring teachers are well-motivated. He highlighted that Niger State now implements one of the highest salary structures for teachers in Nigeria, and assured that the government remains committed to addressing their demands and providing necessary incentives.

He urged all teachers to pursue professional licensing and fully embrace the training opportunity, stressing the importance of translating the knowledge gained into tangible improvements in teaching and learning across schools.

Also speaking at the event, the immediate past Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Hadiza Mohammed, described the training as a strategic initiative of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. She stated that it aligns with the broader educational transformation agenda of Governor Bago's "New Niger" vision, which places inclusive and quality education at the core of sustainable development efforts.

Dr. Mohammed explained that the workshop's theme—“Enhancing Teaching Excellence, Promoting Inclusive Early Childhood Education, and Fostering Sustainable School Leadership”—encapsulates the three critical pillars for rebuilding and strengthening the basic education system in Niger State.

In his remarks, the Director of the Teachers’ Professional Development Institute, Dr. Hussaini Usman, commended the governor's educational reforms under the New Niger Agenda. He encouraged participants to take full advantage of the training, stressing its potential to significantly impact teaching outcomes and improve pupils’ performance across the state.
