The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Abuja–Kaduna passenger train service will resume operations next week, following the completion of repair works and safety inspections on the rail track.

The service had been suspended since August 26 after a derailment incident involving one of the passenger trains. In a statement released on Saturday, NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, confirmed that the affected section of the track had been fully restored to operational standards.

While an exact resumption date was not disclosed, Unyimadu assured passengers that the corporation had taken all necessary steps to ensure their safety.

“NRC has worked tirelessly to ensure both the infrastructure and rolling stock are restored to the highest safety standards in line with global best practices,” he said.

As part of the corporation’s response to the derailment, NRC has refunded 512 of the 583 passengers who were on board the affected train. Efforts are ongoing to reach the remaining passengers and process their refunds.

Unyimadu expressed appreciation for the public’s patience during the suspension period and reaffirmed NRC’s commitment to passenger safety and service quality.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our esteemed passengers and assure the general public that their safety, comfort, and satisfaction remain our top priority,” he said.

He also acknowledged the support of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and other stakeholders who assisted during the recovery phase.

The NRC noted that details of the official resumption date and updated schedule will be made available in the coming days.
